I've ordered a random remote controlled car because I only needed the inside of it, the electrical circuit, steering-part and engine. I didn't care which brand or model it was and this car was rather cheap. It turned out to be a Ferrari 360. So sorry Ferrari fans!

One last look...

That's the first part...

So that's how the inside of a remote controlled car looks like!

Taking off the rear suspension seemed to be the easiest way to start..

That's it for now, I'm waiting for the Heller to arrive so I can finish the project.

Some big package has come with the mail... Could it be?

In fact, there were two packages, the smaller one is the Milles Pattes from my collection...

Yay!

Wow look at that!

Now the Heller kit has arrived, I finally can adjust the Rui Xing parts of the F360 to fit into the DS-parts...

A last look...

Let's see how much it needs to be shortened...

That's one side...

...and that's the other side.

And I've mounted the rims as well.

Take one last look at that...

There it goes!

Now that shouldn't be too much of a problem!

I've shortened the rear wheel base already, so I had to shorten the front wheel base as well, and i used the part I've sawn off from the rear suspension as measure.

The lower rod is already shortened, now it's time to cut off the upper rod.

And, of course, test it first!

I had to be careful with this, the wiring and connections looked very delicate...

I've labeled the wires to avoid confusion in the entanglement...

The antenna needed to be disconnected as well of course.

The front suspension has been assembled onto the chassis.

I've made a buckle which holds the rear suspension. I had to find a way to keep the small bar on its place...

...and found this empty ink hose of a pen. I cut off 2 tiny bits of it and put it over both ends of the bar.

The bolt which is used to keep the chassis and front suspension together gets a second function: there's a hole in the circuit plate which is coincidentally on exactly the right spot!

Voila!

After the front- and rear suspension were ready and mounted on the bottom of the car, I had to make a first unofficial testride to see if the whole lot still worked.

And as you can see, it did! (Batteries were almost empty, that's why it all was so slow)

· gepost op 21/09/06 | Testride | |

The front wheels ended up 1 cm too high and this way I couldn't assemble the body on the chassis so I needed to look for a solution..

I took off these two parts...

...and replaced them by these two bits I found in the shed.

Voilà!

And believe it or not, the holes in the new parts were at the right place!

I couldn't choose a right colour so I let my girlfriend decide: she likes yellow and I wanted the roof to have a different colour, and therefore I chose yellow and white.

The yellow turned out to be mustardish as you can see, and I liked it!

Everything from the windows up would become white, everything below would become yellow. I painted the upper parts first.

Done! Now let it dry and take care of the other work meanwhile...

Now it's time to paint the rest of the body.

Done!

Doesn't look too bad, does it?

First I've cut off the lights which I won't use and put them aside for spare parts.

Then I've put the leds of the headlights in their sockets.

The holes for the tail lighs are made...

...and this was the delicate part: drilling tiny holes in the trumpets on the upper corners of the rear window, where the real DS's have their indicators. At first I wanted to build blinking leds in there which were supposed to be swicthed on and off automatically when steering, but this was almost impossible.

The leds which get assembled into the trumpets needed a resistor to avoid too much tension.

Time to test the lights...

The leds in the trumpets went on when the car drove backwards and that's not what I wanted, so I swicthed two wires and now it's OK!

Meanwhile the plastic covers of the tail lights are coloured red with a CD-marker.

This video has been removed by YouTube. I don't know what I have done wrong, they refer to a video which other users still have in their collection, so why they've kicked me out... I wouldn't know!
Unfortunately, I don't have a backup either so it's gone forever...
